ChessPartner 6.0.4 Released

We just released ChessPartner 6.0.4. This is a maintenace release that fixes several bugs and has some small enhancements. You can download 6.0.4. from our downloads page at: http://www.lokasoft.nl/downloads.htm

Summary of changes:

** Enhancements **
- Added option to kibitz/wisper final result and bookmove variants.

** Bug fixes **
- ERT - Corrected path of learning files for. Learning data is stored
under appdata instead of in the applications path. The application
path is not writeable under vista or windows 7 causing learnng to fail.
- ERT - Option -> Edit Engineext.ini file was opening wrong file.
- ERT - Engine import wizard no longer available from ERT. Must be run
from within ChessPartner. Shows correct message.
- When importing an engine that includes a .cpeini file it was always
displayed as winboard engine, even if it’s a uci engine.
- Fixed wrong matescore in epd analysis output.
- Also outputs score for mate positions.

Fix for ChessTiger 2007 CB analyse problem

This message is for customers who bought and downloaded ChessTiger 2007 before 24dec2007 12:30 GMT+1. There is a 'analyse bug' that happens when a position with black is send to the engine. Good news, the problem is found and fixed. To get the fix, just re-download from the original links and re-install over existing. To check you have the fix, locate the ChessTiger2007UCI.exe module, right click -> properties -> version. It should show 1.0.0.9. The faulty one is 1.0.08.

Announcing Ktulu 8

We are pleased to announce the upcoming release of Ktulu 8 by Rahman Paidar.

A summary of changes:
Tactically the engine is considerably stronger, Ktulu 8 find the best moves faster or at lower depths. King safety evaluation has improved to allow Ktulu to detect better when the king is in danger on the board. Passed pawn evaluation is tuned again in this version which detects really faster the danger of passed pawns on the board before they get revealed. The development strategy of pieces in middle game has been clearly improved compared to the previous version which allows Ktulu to play more active than before. Pawn structuring evaluation is completely rewritten with newer concepts. Ktulu plays better than before in terms of positional playing.

Our tests suggest this version is approximately 50-100 points stronger than previous version. More information and test results will follow later.

Expected first week of July.

The 14th World Computer-Chess Championship will be held in Turin, Italy, in conjunction with the 11th Computer Olympiad and the 5th Computers and Games conference (CG 2006). We are pleased to announce the upcoming release of Ktulu 7 by Rahman Paidar from Iran.

Ktulu 7 is a strong chess engine with playing strength comparable to Gandalf 6. Ktulu has a unique active and interesting playing style and a strong endgame, even without the use of tablebases. Sometimes it likes active positions regardless of whether opponent has a dangerous attack or not. In endgames, Ktulu becomes tactically stronger. The engine knows how to attack the weak pawns and win the game. In middlegame and opening, Ktulu always tries to keep pressure on his opponent.

Stellwagen wins Complete Chess Match in Maastricht 3-1

The final score of the Complete Chess Events Match in Maastricht is 3-1 in favour of the young Dutchman Daniel Stellwagen(18). He won the last shuffle chess game against Dutch Champion Loek van Wely (32)in 42 moves.

Information, reports and pictures can be obtained from the official website www.chessevents.nl.

Next year, another match will be organised in Maastricht by the Chess Events Maastricht Foundation. Also, keep an eye on the website for the Gambit Match between the ex-correspondence chess world champions Gert-jan Timmerman (NED) and Mikhail Umansky (RUS).

Jijbent.nl organises "the largest online game championship"

This news is for our dutch audience, Lokasoft is one of the sponsors of Jijbent.nl a large dutch online game site. On May 9, Jijbent.nl organises "the largest online game championship". Here the dutch press release:

Op 9 Mei 2005 is het zover, Jijbent.nl start dan de *"Grootste Online Spelkampioenschappen"*

Niet alleen in de klassieke bordspellen als Schaken, Backgammon, Go en Dammen zal er gestreden worden, maar ook in moderne bordspellen zoals De beer is los, Streetsoccer, Zeeslag en Subulata. Meer dan *1200 verschillende deelnemers* zullen strijden om de eer kampioen 2005 te worden! Elke week zullen er 2 tot 3 nieuwe kampioenschappen gestart worden. Totaal worden er in *22 verschillende spellen* kampioenschappen gehouden. De inschrijvingen voor de kampioenschappen 2005 starten de eerste week van April.

Iedereen die betalend lid is van Jijbent.nl mag meedoen, van beginners tot gevorderden, maar er zullen ook verschillende toppers meedoen, zoals de wereldkampioen Stratego, Nederlandse en Belgische Othello topspelers, evenals Nederlandse toppers in Backgammon. Ook een voormalig Nederlands kampioen Sneldammen neemt waarschijnlijk deel. Er kan dus een hoog niveau verwacht worden.

Buiten het strijden om de eer, kunnen er ook leuke prijzen gewonnen worden. De sponsors van de Online Spelkampioenschappen 2005 zijn: '999 Games', Lokasoft, de Nederlandse Othellovereniging en de Strategobond.

Jijbent.nl (http://www.jijbent.nl) is een spellensite waar denk- en bordspellen voor 2 personen kunnen worden gespeeld. Dit vindt beurtelings plaats, waarbij de spelers niet tegelijkertijd online hoeven te zijn, maar na elkaar hun zetten kunnen doen. Dagelijks spelen er circa 5000 unieke bezoekers op Jijbent.nl.

Dutch Lokasoft site under construction

For our dutch visiters we are in the process of translating the site in Dutch. Its not yet finished but we are making good progress.

Voor onze Nederlandse bezoekers zijn we druk bezig met het vertalen van de site in het Nederlands. Het is nog niet klaag maar we maken goede vooruitgang.
